Hi all, and sorry for the laxity in posting....

Hi all, I am sorry for my absence, but as can happen real life took over. All is well, and I am in a state of flux right now. I will be moving out to the Acreage that my kids own just outside of Calgary and am looking so forward to this. While I am presently living in a small community just outside of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, I am moving...

"Lilies"

I painted this over the course of a tumultuous week. The tumultuous being shading the petals on the flowers, and highlighting the same. I think I redid this painting a gazillion times. I finally left it alone and painted other things. I went back to it, and it almost completed itself. Sometimes it is better just to walk away and go back later with...

I need input/Spring is finally here/all is good in my world.

In honour of this I present to you "I have arrived!" Acrylics on canvas 16" X 20" From a pic I took of Lilac Leaves opening on a branch. Seriously folks, we have had a long and terrible winter (Southern Alberta, Canada) and finally after four or five false starts, Spring has finally arrived. The temps have been warming...

Not all artists are computer Literate!

Yep I am an artist that is totally computer Illiterate. Fortunately, I can read well and usually I can understand some of the "computerese" that is used by the brilliant people that grace a lot of Artician. I have no idea what CSS is, or why we need it. I don't even know how to engage it. I have no idea how to make my home page look...

Day nine.....A work in progress

Today I am happy. After three days of trying to post a photo in my last blog entry, I finally asked for help and got it from Akujin (Artician Developer). Thanks so much for the help Akujin, it is much appreciated. Lately I have been teaching myself how to paint flowers. What could be better? A million varieties, a Million colours and a...

Days four and Five

Hey all, Hope all is well with you. The weekends are usually busy with my grandsons and catching up on life here.Painting seems to get put on the back burner more often than not. But that is the guilty sin of the retired person. I love being retired, I love being able to paint whenever I want and I love the accumulation of years that have given...

Thanks for the impression of my art & children's books. Yes, that is one of my life goals to be a children's author illustrator! Something I vowed I would do as a child and then promptly forgot about for about 30 years. I've done a little bit of illustration for hire, but it does not fulfill my goal-- I'm working to evolve my own stories so I can do the original work that I find fulfilling. I am using my cartoon blog posts to do that, and hope to compile enough to form a simple comic book for starters.

I can't believe it's snowing there! Well, yes I can because you're north of us and we had snow in Seattle in late March (we usually only get it maybe once in January-- this year we got hit with several weeks of snow in December and January-- very unusual!)

Hi Kathleen,

Please do paint the photo I posted! I may even paint it myself someday. It'd be fun to see a whole group of artists interpret the same photo and see what happens, wouldn't it?

I wanted to clarify my post about your column-- I see that I used the phrase "other non artists" and I didn't mean to imply that you were a "non artist"! My apologies. I meant to convey "other" people, the ones that did not consider themselves to be artists.

As a life long artist, with a bit of schooling (I'm a notorious drop out, because I don't want to feel that I am being forced into changing my style to conform the the school or the teachers' idea of what is "good art"!) I have always had people look at my work and exclaim that they are totally mystified by how I make pictures, and I think that it'd be great to be able to shed light on the process and let them in on how art is created.

Rebecca
who gratefully feels quite well today and wishes the same to you!

Hi Kathleen,
Thanks for stopping by my blog to see what I'm up to. I am focusing on my cartooning work, with hopes for getting enough to make into a book.

Hi Kathleen,

I am still figuring out the Aritician website, but you *can* upload images to your blog. I just tried it out by being on the blog page and then entering into the "customize" mode (see page top bar on the right) and then editing buttons appear that include the add image button.
I maintain my "Picture of the Day" blog over on Blogspot and have it set up to auto-post over here as well. I had to ask for some Artician help to figure that out!
Hope that helps. You could also post a link to your Photobucket photo, if all else fails.

I completely agree that we are our own worst critics, plus painting is so very personal, and I guess it's partially about putting yourself out there - baring your soul for all to see, and there's possibility that no one would buy them.

I still couldn't see my work selling, not yet anyway. I think I need to develop much much more as an artist and I am only just starting out. Maybe one day...Emotion: smile.gif
